I am from a Cornish farming family and for as
far back as I can remember, I have loved being in the open air
being at one with nature. Roaming cliffs, beaches, woodlands
and creeks was the backdrop to my childhood. As a young boy I
felt drawn to painting and was inspired by my mother who was
also an artist.
At the age of 19, I moved to London to study Art at the University
of Westminster. From there I went on to Central St Martin’s
School of art. After 5 years, I yearned to return to Cornwall to
do what I loved most – paint. I learnt my craft of painting
en-plein-air whilst in London. The Thames, Richmond and Kew Gardens
were all favourite haunts. Moving back to Cornwall in 1998, I quickly
established a good reputation with many sell-out shows to my name.
In terms of painting, I am at my happiest when working outside
en-plein-air.
